Minette's Musings

Bienvenue and welcome!

This is where you will find me waxing lyrical about all things vintage, upcycled, repurposed and reloved.

Wonderful stories about the history of some of the treasures I find, the personalities I meet in my travels and what makes them tick and just generally living a vintage-loving life.

Death in the Afternoon

Being an incurably romantic literary nerd with a penchant for champagne and bleak ponderings, this recipe gripped me the moment I found it.
Invented by Ernest Hemingway for a celebrity recipe book, with these instructions:
“Pour one jigger absinthe into a Champagne glass. Add iced champagne until it attains the proper opalescent milkiness. Drink three to five of these slowly.”
I don’t know about three to five, but I’m certainly keen to try at least one, preferrably whilst lying on a velvet chaise longue, smoking a Gauloise and contemplating my navel.

Recipe adapted from: Liquor.com
1.5 oz absinthe
4.5 oz champagne
Pour absinthe into champagne or coupe glass (of course it has to be a coupe glass if you have one) and fill to top with champagne.
